South Western Districts will be without batsman Leus du Plooy for South Africa’s 2022-23 domestic season.

South Western Districts Cricket had contracted du Plooy with internal funds for the 2021-22 season.

He was prolific for SWD during division two of the 2021-22 4-Day Domestic Series. The 27-year-old left-hander struck:

  • 91 and 85 not out v Easterns;
  • 54 v KwaZulu-Natal Inland;
  • 43 and 11 v Limpopo; and
  • 186 and 33 not out v Northern Cape.

“Leus was great for us this past summer and, although his departure leaves a massive void, it also provides opportunity for other batsmen to make the step up,” said Kennedy this week.

Du Plooy is currently with Derbyshire in English county cricket.

Kennedy, meanwhile, confirmed the players SWD have contracted for the 2022-23 season. Seamer Herschel America has effectively replaced the outgoing Renaldo Meyer, whose move to North West was confirmed earlier this year.

Former Eastern Province batsman Matthew Christensen’s move from the Western Province Colts to SWD, too, was confirmed last month.
