Despite their career growth to franchise and international cricket, some players – still associated with club cricket – were the focus of attention and spend at Sunday’s T20 Global League player draft in Cape Town.
Qaasim Adams (United Cricket Club)
- United Cricket Club recently welcomed the return of the veteran left-hander, who has left the Titans for the Cape Cobras – and was bought by the Durban Qalandars for R650,000 in the eighth round.
Dane Paterson (United Cricket Club)
- Another United Cricket Club star, when not playing for the Proteas and Cobras, the talented seamer fetched a whopping R1.8 million from the Bloem City Blazers in the first round.
Beuran Hendricks (Bellville Cricket Club)
- Part of the Bellville Cricket Club XI as recently as April 2017, the Proteas and Cobras left-arm seamer was bought by the Bloem City Blazers for R780,000 in round seven.
Dayyaan Galiem (Western Province Cricket Club)
- The lucrative benefactor of the third-last round, the Western Province Cricket Club and Cobras all-rounder was bought for R260,000 by the Cape Town Knight Riders.
Pieter Malan (Durbanville Cricket Club)
- While his brothers Janneman Malan and Andre Malan will be playing at the Bloem City Blazers and Jo’burg Giants, respectively, the loyal servant of Durbanville Cricket Club was recruited by the Cape Town Knight Riders for R130,000 in the penultimate roud.
Wayne Parnell (Montrose Cricket Club)
- In the Montrose Cricket Club XI as recently as April 2017, the Proteas and Cobras all-rounder was purchased by the Stellenbosch Monarchs for R1.3 million in the third round.
Patrick Kruger (Burma Lads Cricket Club)
- Named Batsman of the Tournament and Player of the Tournament at the 2016 National Club Championship, the Burma Lads Cricket Club and Knights batsman went to the Jo’burg Giants for R845,000 in the sixth round.
Robbie Frylinck (Pinetown Cricket Club)
- Currently playing for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League, the Dolphins and Pinetown Cricket Club all-rounder was recruited by the Pretoria Mavericks for R1.1 million in the fourth round.
Kyle Nipper (Standard Cricket Club)
- As talented but substantially cheaper than fellow Dolphins all-rounder Frylinck, Standard Cricket Club’s Nipper was the very last of Sunday’s 128 picks – and was hired by the Pretoria Mavericks for R130,000.
George Linde (Durbanville Cricket Club)
- An important resource in a Benoni Zalmi bowling attack spearheaded by Pakistani Wahab Riaz, Durbanville Cricket Club and Cobras spinner George Linde was employed for R390,000 in the 12th round.
Calvin Savage (Crusaders Cricket Club)
- Following in the footsteps of Crusaders Cricket Club stalwart Cameron Delport, who has fashioned a decent career in Twenty20 cricket around the world, the seamer was bought by Benoni Zalmi for R260,000 in the third-last round.
