The Netherlands beat South Africa by 38 runs in Tuesday’s Cricket World Cup fixture in Dharamsala, India.
The Netherlands posted a final total of 245 for eight on the back of captain Scott Edwards’ 78 not out from 69 deliveries.
South Africa’s reply slipped to 44 for four – and eventually 207 all out.
“They were able to extract some deficiencies in our batting. The fielding wasn’t up to the standard,” said Proteas captain Temba Bavuma.
“We need to have some conversations with the boys. You have to let the emotion to seep in. This will hurt. That was a proper display from them. They put us under pressure throughout
The result left the Proteas in third position in the tournament’s 10-team standings with four points from two wins and a defeat. Earlier in the tournament, they beat Australia and Sri Lanka.
“We were clinical against Australia. It’s not the same standard we had against Australia. Our campaign is not over by any stretch of the imagination,” added Bavuma.
South Africa’s next Cricket World Cup fixture will be against England on Saturday.
