Proteas ODI and T20I captain Temba Bavuma has been included in the Lions’ squad for next month’s series in Namibia.
Bavuma has been sidelined since late June 2022 due to an elbow injury. The injury forced him to miss South Africa’s ongoing tour of England. Batsman David Miller and spinner Keshav Maharaj captained the T20I and ODI team, respectively, in Bavuma’s absence.
Batsmen Evan Jones and Cameron Delport have also been named in the Lions’ squad. Jones and Delport left Northern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal Inland, respectively, earlier this year.
Proteas duo Reeza Hendricks and Wiaan Mulder have been listed in the 19-man squad, too. Mulder’s inclusion, though, remains unconfirmed. He is currently playing for Leicestershire in English county cricket.
The series will also feature the Lahore Qalandars and Richelieu Eagles – Namibia’s development team. Bengal from India have withdrawn from the competition.
Former Lions batsman Shane Dadswell has been named in the Lahore Qalandars’ squad.
He played for the Lions during South Africa’s 2021-22 domestic season, but has been contracted by Easterns for 2022-23.
