The Lions beat the Lahore Qalandars in the final of the Namibia Global T20 tournament in Windhoek on Monday.
Batsman Reeza Hendricks starred in the final with 94 not out from 59 deliveries.
He had hit 55 against Namibia’s Eagles a day earlier and 77 against the same opposition last week.
The series marked a return to competitive cricket for Proteas T20 captain Temba Bavuma, who was sidelined from the Proteas’ ongoing tour of England due to injury.
Bavuma hit 23 against the Eagles – and 56, 9 and 15 against the Qalandars – for a total of 103 runs in four innings at an average of 25.75.
“This tournament has been good as I have been out with injury for the last two to three months. To get some cricket under my belt is refreshing from my side,” said Bavuma.
Bavuma and Hendricks will likely be named in South Africa’s squad for the T20 World Cup later this year. The squad will be announced on Tuesday.
The inaugural edition of the Namibia Global T20 featured the Lions from South Africa, Lahore Qalandars from Pakistan and Eagles from Namibia. Bengal from India were due to compete, but withdrew prior to the start of the tournament.
