The experienced Evan Flint will be named Groundsman of the Year for a third successive time at the Cricket South Africa awards on Saturday. This year, though, he will share the accolade with colleague Bethuel Buthelezi.
Flint was the curator at Newlands, but joined the staff at the Wanderers earlier this year.
“Bethuel and Evan are joint winners of this award because they both worked tirelessly as a team to ensure that the country’s premier venue, Wanderers, has been in tip-top shape,” stated an excerpt from CSA’s awards booklet.

“It was a long season that started in September, but Buthelezi ensured that the famous Johannesburg venue was ready for action as he oversaw the inaugural Mzansi Super League campaign and the 4-Day Franchise Series, before being joined by Flint for the second part of the season.
“Together they then produced a pitch of world-class standards that hosted one Proteas Test over the summer against Pakistan and staged a high-scoring CSA T20 Challenge final – one of the best in memory.”
Flint was succeeded by the talented Ihtishaam Adams at Newlands. Adams was the venue’s assistant groundsman since 2014.
