All-rounder Justin Broad debuted for Northamptonshire in the T20 Blast this week.
Broad took a wicket and scored 14 in a 35-run defeat to Lancashire.
The South African-born Broad, who moved Surrey to Northamptonshire earlier this season, recently secured a professional contract.
“I’m so grateful to Northamptonshire for giving me an opportunity to play county cricket,” said Broad.
“It hasn’t been an easy passage for me, but I’m so happy and cannot wait to begin my professional career with the club. It’s been a dream of mine and I’m so happy that I’ve achieved that goal.”
Broad struck four consecutive half-centuries in the Second Eleven Twenty20 prior to being promoted to Northamptonshire’s T20 Blast XI.
“Broad has been brilliant this year, he’s worked really hard and scored runs in each format,” added Northamptonshire second XI coach Graeme White.
“He’s a three-dimensional player, but more than that, his personality and character has been first class with the group, he’s been selfless and it shows the class of the man.
“He’s going to be all in for the team and I know he’s looking to contribute as much as he can.”
The 22-year-old Broad played for Western Province Cricket Club during the 2022-23 Western Province Cricket Association premier league. He hit the highest score during the 2022-23 WPCA premier league. Broad had also previously represented Bellville Cricket Club in the WPCA premier league.
“We’ve been really impressed with Justin this year, both his on-field performances in the second team but his attitude has been superb as well,” added Northamptonshire head coach John Sadler.
“He fully deserves this opportunity and I’m looking forward to seeing him take that next step.”
Broad has also been capped nine times in T20I cricket by Germany.
