Fast bowler Tristan Luus has joined MI New York in the 2025 edition of Major League Cricket in the United States of America.
Luus, who is contracted by the Dolphins in South African domestic cricket, was recently in the West Indies with South Africa A. He won the SA20 title with MI Cape Town earlier this year.
“Our champion from Cape Town joins the family in New York. Tristan Luus, the right-arm fast bowler, is all set to join the MI new York squad as a replacement for Rashid Khan, who is not available for this season of Major Cricket League,” read a statement from the franchise.
Tristan is 19 years old, tall and nippy. Having idolised and modelled his bowling action around Dale Steyn, he has been a part of the Under-19 World Cup, SA Emerging side, South Africa A team and plays for MI Cape Town in SA20, where he recently won the 2025 title.”
Luus will be team-mates with Lions all-rounder Delano Potgieter and Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock at MI New York. South Western Districts’ Heath Richards is with MI New York, too.
Former Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen is Seattle Orcas captain. The Texas Super Kings have South African batsman Faf du Plessis.
Washington Freedom are the reigning MLC champions. MI New York won the inaugural MLC title in 2023.
Several former South African provincial and franchise cricketers have relocated to the USA, including seamer Corne Dry, batsman Andries Gous, seamers Carmi le Roux and Shadley van Schalkwyk – and all-rounders Calvin Savage and Justin Dill.
