South Africa A moved to 287 for six – for a three-run deficit – on day two of this week’s four-day fixture against Sri Lanka A in Hambantota.
Batsman Tristan Stubbs struck 117 from 181 deliveries, including 15 fours and one six.
This is Stubbs’ first first-class century since March 2021‘s 132 for Eastern Province against Gauteng in Potchefstroom.
He had support from middle-order batsmen Keegan Petersen, Zubayr Hamza and Kyle Verreynne, who scored, 50, 46 and 34 not out, respectively.
“First-class cricket is where you’ve got to bat time. I haven’t played a lot of 50-over cricket but in this format, you absorb pressure and then apply pressure,” Stubbs told ESPNcricinfo recently.
“T20 cricket you have to make a play almost every ball but in 50-over cricket and first-class cricket you can just bat time and that’s what I have really enjoyed doing.”
Earlier, spinner Senuran Muthusamy completed a six-wicket haul in Sri Lanka A’s 290 all out.
Muthusamy has taken 18 wickets in three innings during this tw0-match series. He claimed 12 wickets in last week’s series opener, which South Africa A lost.
