The University of Pretoria Cricket Club (Tuks) beat the University of Johannesburg Cricket Club in Saturday’s Varsity Cricket tournament final in Potchefstroom.

Tuks beat the University of Stellenbosch Cricket Club (Maties) in the first semi-final. The University of Johannesburg triumphed over North-West University Cricket Club (Pukke) in the second semi-final.

“It is a fantastic effort by our up and coming players at Tuks,” said Titans chief executive officer Jacques Faul.

“We always have an eye on Tuks, because they represent the future of Northerns and, ultimately, Titans cricket. To know that there are several Northerns players in that team bodes well for the future.”

Tuks seamer Ruben Trumplemann was named Bowler of the Match and Player of the Match after the final on the back of a telling three-wicket haul.

Tuks captain Neil Brand claimed the Batsman of the Match accolade – and was named Player of the Tournament.

Pukke’s LourĂ©n Steenkamp clinched the Batsman of the Tournament accolade. Tuks’ Sean Gilson welcomed the Bowler of the Tournament award.
