Former Dolphins coach Grant Morgan has been appointed KwaZulu-Natal Inland head coach ahead of South Africa’s 2022-23 domestic season.
Morgan has succeeded former Tuskers head coach Michael Smith, who resigned earlier this month – and has since been appointed Lions batting coach.
Morgan coached KwaZulu-Natal Inland previously – and later the Dolphins.
He left South African domestic cricket and joined Scotland as assistant coach in July 2019. He resigned from that post in October 2020.
Morgan has also held coaching roles with South Africa Under-19 – and the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.
What Morgan said
“It is with great excitement that I accept the challenge to return to a very special team, cricket union and a passionate cricketing community I have served before,” said Morgan.
“I am deeply motivated to continue the great work done and move the team toward their goals going forward.
“I have worked with most of the players at some stage or other somewhere and want them to also reach their individual goals within the team context – and enjoy their cricket and time in our special place in Pietermaritzburg.
“I look forward to working with former and new colleagues on the staff and board – and to build wonderful memories and relationships, as that is what life and cricket are all about.”
What KZN Inland president Shaun van der Byl said
“We welcome Grant back into the family. Grant’s vast experience, together with his relationship with the current players, will allow for a smooth transition.
“He takes over a squad that has an excellent platform laid by previous coach. I am confident that Grant will excel in his new role at the Tuskers.
What KZN Inland CEO Jason Sathiaseelan said
“No stranger to KZN Inland, Grant will bring the care factor to our organisation. He has won many trophies at KZN Inland and has a proven track record in this regard. Having coached at franchise level, Grant will bring invaluable experience to the Tuskers set-up,” said Sathiaseelan.
