Former Test, ODI and T20I batsmen Hamish Marshall and James Marshall have been named in New Zealand’s Over-40 squad for this month’s series against Australia Over-40.
The Marshall twins effectively shared 20 Tests, 76 ODIs and six ODIs from 2000 to 2008.
“I think for anyone representing their country in any sport at any level it’s a great honour,” said James Marshall.
“For me, to do it again at the age of 44 is a thrill, playing with a group of lads that are very skillful.”
Hamish Marshall added: “If you get to wear the silver fern is very special – it’s an opportunity to perform for your country and be competitive again.
“I’m sure Australia will bring plenty of tough and aggressive cricket to the series, which will be great to take on.”
Former Sri Lanka spinner Suresh Perera, who played three Tests and 20 ODIs from 1998 to 2001, has been included in the Australia Over-40 squad.
The inaugural Over-40 World Cup is scheduled to be played in South Africa in March 2024.
The latest edition of the Over-50 World Cup will be played in South Africa next month. The tournament will feature several former international cricketers, including Zimbabwe’s Murray Goodwin, South Africa’s Alan Dawson, India’s Sanjeev Sharma, Pakistan’s Zahoor Elahi and more.
