Uganda have qualified for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Uganda beat Tanzania, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Rwanda this month to qualify for next year’s T20 World Cup.
Namibia have also qualified for the event.
What the ICC said about Uganda
“With five wins from their six games, Uganda have ensured a top-two finish in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier and booked their tickets for the T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and USA,” read a statement from the International Cricket Council.
“This will be their first ever appearance in an ICC World Cup event.
“On the other hand, Zimbabwe, who suffered losses at the hands of Namibia and Uganda, missed out on the bus to the T20 event. The side had featured in the previous edition of the tournament, where they’d garnered a famous one-run win over Pakistan.”
Uganda captain Brian Masaba added: “A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to get us where we are today.
“It has been years of toil and hard work, four or five years of sacrifice. The fans joining in the celebrations was pretty special.
“I think the whole world realises there is a lot of potential outside the big nations. Hopefully, this is something the government and sponsors can get behind.”
