United Cricket Club fast bowler Francois Plaatjies has been sidelined by injury – and will miss the start of the 2018-19 Western Province Cricket Association first division A.

Plaatjies took two wickets in as many appearances during United Cricket Club’s recent Ama20 Competition campaign, before succumbing to an Achilles tendon injury.

The 32-year-old Plaatjies is a former Cape Cobras cricketer – and played 20 first-class matches between 2007 and 2014. He joined United Cricket Club in November 2017.

“We have not received final feedback from him as yet to the extent of the injury and how long he will be out,” United Cricket Club representative Kashief Abdullah told Club Cricket SA.

United Cricket Club occupied first position in the 2017-18 first division A standings, but were not afforded promotion to the premier league, after the season was curtailed by severe water shortages in Cape Town and surrounds. The competition has since changed from two- to one-day cricket.

United Cricket Club recently appointed all-rounder Shaheen Khan captain, after former skipper Mujahid Behardien joined Primrose Cricket Club in the premier league. United Cricket Club also lostbatsman Nadir Samaai to Ottoman Cricket Club.

Khan and company’s 2018-19 first division A campaign will start against Primrose Cricket Club and Tygerberg Cricket Club on 27 and 28 October, respectively.
