United Cricket Club have appointed batsman Ismaeel Galant captain ahead of the 2022-22 Western Province Cricket Association first division B.
Galant has succeeded former captain Adeeb Allie, who will continue to play for United Cricket Club.
United Cricket Club have not appointed a dedicated head coach for the 2022-23 WPCA first division B. They will, instead, employ a hybrid coaching structure comprising head of senior cricket Shuray Booley and consultant Saadiek Davids.
“We looked at possible coaches. We had a couple options, but what we felt would be missing is a coach that understands our culture, history and style of play,” Booley told Club Cricket SA.
“We decided that a way forward for the new season, for the challenges that are ahead, was to introduce a hybrid coaching system – and this is where Saadiek and myself comes in.”
United Cricket Club move to WPCA first division B
United Cricket Club’s first XI will compete in the 2022-23 first division B after being relegated from the first division A. They finished in 11th position in 2021-22’s 12-team first division A standings, after eight wins, 12 losses and three no-results.
“Saadiek has been brought in as a consultant coach to run our midweek practice sessions, with me running the technical side of things as well as taking over on match days,” add Booley.
“Saadiek was a great choice, given his success coaching our junior cricketers for the last six years. So this is the hybrid coaching plan we are applying.”
United Cricket Club second XI
Spinner Shukri Abrahams, meanwhile, has been named United Cricket Club second XI.
United Cricket Club’s second XI will participate in the 2022-23 reserve division C after being relegated from the reserve division B. They finished in 10th position in 2021-22’s 11-team reserve B standings, after two wins, 16 losses and two no-results.
