Khayelitsha Cricket Club have reappointed head coach Bulelani Libazi, ahead of the 2017-18 season.

Libazi held the position previously, before assuming the role of assistant coach at the University of Cape Town Cricket Club.

He will succeed the outgoing Cyril Ntshidi at Khayelitsha Cricket Club.

“I am really looking forward to my new role. Khayelitsha Cricket Club – it is bigger than anyone would think. Carrying the brand and representing the community will come with a lot of pressure, but I must stay humble and trust the players I will be working with,” Libazi told Club Cricket SA.

Khayelitsha Cricket Club finished in the third position in the 2016-17 Western Province Cricket Association first division D, after three wins in eight attempts.

However, they remain in contention for a berth in the 2017-18 premier league, after June’s WPCA local leagues committee recommendations – largely dictated Cricket South Africa’s transformation objectives – urged that a so-called ‘black African’ club join the premier league.

Gugulethu Cricket Club, Khayelitsha Cricket Club and Langa Cricket Club have been identified as the clubs meeting the criteria to play in the premier league,” former WPCA club and facilities coordinator Thulani Zideba told Club Cricket SA last month.

“All three clubs will be requested to present, to the WPCA, why they must be given premier league – or first division A – status.”

Gugulethu Cricket Club occupied eighth spot in 2016-17’s nine-team first division D, while Langa Cricket Club finished second last in the 10-team first division C.
