Head coach Ryan Maron has paid tribute to the late Rory Grant, after the avid University of Cape Town Cricket Club supporter and servant passed away earlier this month.

The 53-year-old Grant lost a brave battle with cancer on Friday, 4 November 2016, and is survived by his wife, Rose.

“I know many of our followers didn’t know Rory too well, or how he was affiliated to Claremont Cricket Club for 36 years – and University of Cape Town Cricket Club for five years. But if you ask some of the local cricketers and supporters who did know Rory, you will quickly realise that his passion for UCT cricket and cricket in general couldn’t be matched,” said Maron.

He absolutely loved the game. He always wanted the best out of us – and I am sure many of us will never forget how he patrolled the boundary rope, shouting comments of encouragement if he felt we needed them. He was also an amazing support to many of us – and took an interest in our lives and assisted wherever and whenever he could.”

Grant’s memorial will take place at UCT Cricket Club on Saturday, 12 November, from 18:30.
