University of Cape Town Cricket Club recruiting new head coach

The University of Cape Town Cricket Club are seeking a replacement for outgoing head coach Paul Phillipson, ahead of the 2018-19 Western Province Cricket Association season.

Phillipson succeeded former head coach Ryan Maron, who was hired by the West Indies Cricket Board, before the 2017-18 season. The 66-year-old Phillipson has since taken up a post at Wynberg Boys’ High School.

The University of Cape Town Cricket Club, who have also lost captain and Johannesburg-bound Jamie Rood, occupied third position in the 2017-18 first division A, prior to its cancellation due to the ongoing drought in the Western Cape.

They are the reigning WPCA Club of the Year – and earlier this year relished opening batsman Jack Newby’s elevation to the Western Province Sunfoil 3-Day Cup team. Newby secured a Western Province contract this month.
