The University of Fort Hare Cricket Club were bowled out for a mere six in Thursday’s University Sport South Africa Week clash against the University of the Free State Cricket Club.
Pursuing a testing 177-un target, the University of Fort Hare Cricket Club fell to an embarrassing 170-run defeat in Stellenbosch.
Opener Thabo Linake top-scored with three. There were eight ducks – and three extras. One player retired out on zero.
University of the Free State Cricket Club (Kovsie) seamer Beyers Swanepoel completed remarkable figures of five for one in seven overs, including six maidens. Fellow opening bowler Jonathan Draai took four for four in 63.
The result was a complete contrast to the University of Fort Hare Cricket Club’s opening three fixtures, which yielded victories over the University of KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Club, North-West Vaal University Cricket Club and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Cricket Club (Madibaz).
Earlier this year, Florida Cricket Club were bowled out for just nine in a key 2017-18 Gauteng Cricket Board premier league B fixture against the University of the Witwatersrand Cricket Club.
Having won the toss and opted to bowl first, the hosts dismissed the visitors in a mere eight overs – 42 short of the full allotment.
Opener Junior Van Rooyen top-scored with four, while middle-order batsman Darian de Bruin struck three not out. Nine ducks and two extras completed the total.
Off-spinner Farhaan Sayanvala completed telling figures of seven for two, before the home side reached the modest target with 48.1 overs to spare.
