UWC Cricket Club withdraw from Ama20 Competition

The University of the Western Cape Cricket Club have withdrawn from the Western Province Cricket Association’s 2021-22 Ama20 Competition, which will start this week.

The University of the Western Cape Cricket Club were scheduled to contest group A of the competition with Brackenfell Cricket Club, Cape Town Cricket Club, Claremont Cricket Club, Langa Cricket Club and Rondebosch Cricket Club.

“UWC CC has officially withdrawn from the AMA 20 only and Langa Cricket Club not available this weekend,” read a statement from the Western Province Cricket Association.

UWC Cricket Club will still host matches. despite the team’s lack of participation.

“There will only be one fixture on Sunday, between Claremont Cricket Club and Brackenfell Cricket Club, at UWC CC’s A field,” added the WPCA.

Earlier this year, the University of the Western Cape, withdrew players from the Cape Premier League, too.

They are coached by former West Indies, Pakistan and Cape Cobras head coach Richard Pybus – and recently recruited seamer Imraan Philander and batsman Bonga Makaka and Kai Curran.
