North West University Cricket Club (Pukke) batsman Shane Dadswell struck a record 490 in a massive 2017-18 North West Cricket premier league victory over Potch Dorp Cricket Club at the Witrand Oval in Potchefstroom on Saturday, 18 November.
The hard-hitting Dadswell’s enormous innings spanned a mere 151 deliveries – and featured 27 fours and 57 sixes. He scored 253 runs through the off-side and 237 across the leg-side.
The right-handed opener amassed the record on his 20th birthday – and was well supported by the talented Ruan Haasbroek, who scored a complementary 104 not out.
“It has been an amazing couple of weeks because last week I got 126 off 38 balls. So, there’s certainly an attacking nature inside me,” said Dadswell.
“It would be amazing to play cricket for a living. I guess the first steps have already been taken because it was in the pipeline for me to start training with the North West Dragons from this week.
“So that’s the direction I’m looking in for now. I have been part of a few things with them this season, I’ve played a warm-up game and stuff like that. I don’t really think I would have had an opportunity up until next year, but hopefully this innings will change that.”

Insane batting in a 50-over club match in Potch. Is this ground the size of a postage stamp? And if CricInfo is to be believed, today is Dadswell’s 20th birthday. pic.twitter.com/XwA2QzXkbK — Ros Brodie (@ros_brodie) November 18, 2017
Potch Dorp Cricket Club responded with a severely insufficient 290 for nine. All-rounder Dadswell finished with handy figures of two for 32 in seven overs.
