Former Proteas batsman Herschelle Gibbs isn’t the only player to hit six sixes in an ODI anymore.

The United States of America’s Jaskaran Malhotra achieved the feat against Papua New Guinea in Oman earlier this week.

Malhotra struck six consecutive sixes en route to 173 not out from 124 balls.

The bowler was seamer Gaudi Toka.

It’s quite amazing, really. I had not planned on any such thing when I went in to bat,” Malhotra told ESPNcricinfo.

“I entered the field with our team in a spot of bother, having lost three wickets for 29 inside the first 10 overs. My first target was to just stay till the end. As the innings progressed, I got the confidence to play my shots.

“In the final over, once I was able to hit four sixes, that’s when the thought of six sixes first came in. I am grateful that I was able to equal this record.

“You can’t plan these things. It just happened as he kept bowling in my strong areas. I was just lucky to connect.

“Besides my personal milestone, I am happy people are talking about cricket in the USA. This is massive for us.”

The ton was the first for the USA in ODI cricket. Mahotra is the captain of the Morrisville Cardinals in the Minor League Cricket Championship in the States.
