Wanderers Cricket Club have appointed all-rounder Daniel Poulton captain for the 2019-20 Central Gauteng Lions premier league A.

Wanderers Cricket Club finished in fifth position in the 2018-19 CGL premier league A, after a dozen wins, eight losses and two draws, according to WebSports.

Poulton scored almost 400 runs in 16 innings at an average of over 35. He also took 33 wickets at an average of under 17.

“We are proud to announce that Dan will be the first XI captain for the 2019-20 season,” read a statement from the club.

“Dan first played for the club in 2006 while at school and has worked his way up through the teams to become a consistent premier league all-rounder. He has also spent three seasons playing in Ireland and another in England.”

Meanwhile, the Central Gauteng Lions have appointed entrepreneur Jono Leaf-Wright new chief executive officer.

Leaf-Wright will succeed the outgoing Greg Fredericks. His tenure will start on 1 October 2019.

Described as an “astute businessman and entrepreneur” by the Central Gauteng Lions, the 37-year-old Leaf-Wright worked with the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League – and Jozi Stars in last year’s inaugural Mzansi Super League.

“We are in challenging but exciting times in South Africa and with a spirit of innovation, partnerships, service excellence and a shared vision, I believe we will achieve the desired future for Gauteng cricket,” said Leaf-Wright.
