All-rounder Wayne Parnell has left Western Province for the Tuskers ahead of the 2025-26 domestic season in South Africa.
Parnell moved from the Warriors to Western Province, who were the Cape Cobras at the time, in 2015.
He has not played professional cricket since April 2024 and, earlier this year, agreed to an early contract end with Western Province.
“I had a one-year contract with Western Province, which would have come to an end at the end of next month. After the SA20 earlier this year, there was only 50-over cricket left with Western Province as I was only really involved in white-ball cricket at the time,” Parnell told Club Cricket SA.
“I wasn’t really in the right frame of mind to play in the One-Day Cup then, so I had a conversation with Western Province to see if I could get out of my contract early.
“I didn’t feel it was right to be with a contract but not available to play. I did not want to take an opportunity away from a younger, hungrier guy. In the end, it was a pretty easy decision from both sides to end the contract.
“Every team plays a part in your journey. I would like to think that I have added a lot of value to the team as a whole and a lot of the players that have come through the Western Province ranks. I will always be thankful to the coaches at WP – Ashwell Prince, Faaiek Davids, Salieg Nackerdien and other guys I worked with.
“I enjoyed working with the different chief executive officers at WP over time. I don’t have any bad blood there. It shows in how WP and I worked to this arrangement now – it was an easy and seamless process.”

Wayne Parnell.
The Tuskers have been promoted to division one after winning three titles during the 2024-25 season. They have retained head coach Ahmed Amla and assistant coach Yusuf Abdulla.
“In terms of moving to the Tuskers, it was great to have a conversation with their head coach Ahmed. I’ve toured with him before and he is someone I really respect. There was a lot of positivity about the move from his side,” added Parnell.
“We spoke about what he was looking for from me and that aligned with what my expectations are. My mindest going to the Tuskers is to win games for them. That’s always going to be number one.”

Daryn Dupavillon.
The Tuskers have also signed seamers Daryn Dupavillon and Hardus Viljoen from the Dolphins and Northern Cape, respectively. Dupavillon and Viljoen, like Parnell, have played for the Proteas.
“Those are quality bowlers who have had really good careers so far. They will also be hungry to contribute to the team’s success. It’s always nice to have guys in the team who have succeeded at different levels and played in different countries,” concluded Parnell.
