Batsman Marco Wyngard has returned to Victoria Cricket Club ahead of the 2023-24 Western Province Cricket Association season.
Wyngard ended a longstanding playing relationship with Victoria Cricket Club in September 2022 to join Rondebosch Cricket Club.
Victoria Cricket Club had been relegated from the WPCA premier league to the first division A at the time of Wyngard’s exit – and have since been demoted again to the first division B.
‘Deepen his bond with the club’
“Guess who’s back. Victoria Cricket Club are thrilled to announce the return of Marco Wyngard to his boyhood club,” read a statement from the club.
“After an incredible season away, Marco’s journey has only served to deepen his bond with the club.
“His dedication, hard work and growth during his time away have not gone unnoticed.
“As Marco rejoins our ranks, we are excited to witness the next chapter of his cricketing journey unfold.
“The skills and experience he has garnered from his time apart will undoubtedly enrich our squad and contribute to our collective success on the field.
“Welcome home, Marco. The entire Victoria family are behind you and we can’t wait to see you shine in the colours you’ve always held dear. Here’s to a remarkable season ahead.”
New Victoria Cricket Club head coach
Last month, Victoria Cricket Club appointed new head coach Saadiek Davids.
Davids, who previously worked with United Cricket Club, has succeeded former Victoria Cricket Club head coach Myles Williamson.
“We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Saadiek Davids as our new head coach. After a challenging period, we are eager to embark on a journey of rebuilding and growth under Saadiek’s esteemed leadership,” added the club.
“The entire club is excited about the future as we look forward to a fresh chapter, filled with determination, teamwork and success.
“Together, we will strive to make a mark in the cricketing arena and bring pride to our loyal club members and supporters.
“We extend our warmest welcome to coach Davids and anticipate a fruitful partnership that will undoubtedly propel Victoria Cricket Club towards excellence.”
Seamer Diego du Plessis, meanwhile, has left Victoria Cricket Club for Kraaifontein Cricket Club.
