Western Province have named a 13-man squad for this week’s One-Day Cup fixture against North West at Newlands in Cape Town.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreynne and all-rounder Mihlali Mpongwana have been included after returning from Pakistan with South Africa. Seamer Wesley Bedja has been retained in the Western Province squad.
“We are getting a few national players back, so that will give us some positive energy, especially with the bat,” said Western Province all-rounder George Linde.
“It is a big boost for us as they are big players for the team and we’re happy to have them back. Kyle with the bat and Mihlali with bat and ball will add so much value to the team and that is something we welcome back with open arms.”
Western Province’s opening fixture of this year’s One-Day Cup ended in 40-run defeat to the Lions. Western Province are the reigning One-Day Cup champions.
“Our bowlers worked very hard against the Lions. We stayed in the fight and the result could have gone either way on the day, but the team showed resilience and strong ability to rise above and that is something positive we are taking into the second match of the campaign.”
