Western Province have added left-arm seamer Liyema Waqu to the squad for Tuesday’s T20 Challenge fixture against Boland in Paarl.
Waqu has played one first-class fixture, but has not yet been capped at T20 level by Western Province.
He has played List A and T20 cricket for South Africa Emerging and South Africa Under-19, respectively.
Waqu took a seven-wicket haul for the University of the Western Cape Cricket Club against Claremont Cricket Club in the Western Province Cricket Association premier league last week.
Batsman Jiveshan Pillay, who won the WPCA T20 premier league title with Western Province Cricket Club last week, has also been included in the 17-man squad for Tuesday’s match at Boland Park.
Rylands Cricket Club seamer Mbulelo Dube has been omitted. Dube debuted in Sunday’s T20 Challenge win over North West at Newlands, but has since joined the South Africa squad for the Hong Kong Sixes. WP batsman Kashif Joseph and all-rounder Abdullah Bayoumy are also going to the Hong Kong Sixes.
Claremont Cricket Club leg-spinner Josh Breed has been retained in the WP squad.
“We’re in quite a good space going into Boland Park. Boland is one of those sides where you know exactly what to expect, but they still execute their plans well,” said Breed.
“So, we’ve identified the areas where we believe we can capitalise.”
