Western Province have named two captains for the 2025-26 domestic season in South Africa.
Seamer Beuran Hendricks will captain the team in 4-Day Domestic Series. All-rounder Kyle Simmonds will captain the team in the One-Day Cup and T20 Challenge.
“I am really looking forward to being the white-ball captain. I think it’s something that I have been speaking about with close friends and family over the last season and since the season ended,” said Simmonds.
“Just understanding that Kyle Verreynne will be away quite a bit and I think he led us exceptionally well, especially to our first trophy in quite a while.
“I want to replicate what he started as a new brand with Western Province cricket. I’ve worked well with him in the past, so I kind of got a real understanding of how to do things through him.
“For me personally, just going to keep doing what I’ve been doing the last couple of years for Western Province. And hopefully we can build some momentum now in the four-day competition and take that into the white ball stuff.”
Hendricks added: “I feel honoured to be given the responsibility of leading Western Province and such a talented group of players this coming season.
“I’ve been a part of this union for most of my career and to be given the opportunity to be in a position to take the team to new heights is something I won’t take for granted.
“For me the badge always comes first and all I’ll be asking from the squad is to express themselves and always put the team first.”
Western Province have signed batsmen Josh van Heerden and Jiveshan Pillay from the Titans and Warriors, respectively. Seamer Tshepo Moreki has returned from the Lions.
Meanwhile, all-rounders Onke Nyaku and Wayne Parnell have left Western Province for North West and the Tuskers, respectively. Seamer Wesley Bedja has exited WP for the Warriors and batsman Beni Hansen has joined South Western Districts.

Western Province compete in division one of South African domestic cricket. They ended the 2024-25 T20 Challenge, 4-Day Domestic Series and One-Day Cup in fourth, fifth and last position, respectively.
Former Proteas seamer and franchise batsman Rory Kleinveldt and Qaasim Adams have since been appointed Western Province head and assistant coach, respectively.
“Beuran’s wealth of experience and leadership qualities make him the perfect fit to lead our red-ball side, while Kyle’s tactical awareness and consistency will serve the white-ball team well,” concluded Kleinveldt.
“Both have earned the respect of the dressing room, and I have no doubt they will carry the team forward with pride and determination as we head into the 2025-26 campaign.”
