Western Province Cricket Club have overtaken Durbanville Cricket Club to first position in the 2022-23 Western Province Cricket Association premier league.

Reigning champions Durbanville Cricket Club maintained first position in the 12-team WPCA premier league standings through the first half of the 2022-23 season.

On 14 January 2023, however, Durbanville Cricket Club lost to the University of the Western Cape Cricket Club and Western Province Cricket Club beat Cape Town Cricket Club.

The results saw Western Province move to first position with 44 points and Durbanville Cricket Club slip to second with 43.

Both teams have 10 matches left this season. Four points are awarded for a win and additional one for a bonus-point victory; zero for a defeat.

Captain Derek Mitchell and all-rounders Justin Broad and Givon Christian are among Western Province Cricket Club’s leading run-scorers this season.

Seamers Luke Petersen and Alex Draai and leg-spinner Justin Behrens are among their top wicket-takers.

Elsewhere in the WPCA premier league standings

Claremont Cricket Club, Green Point Cricket Club and Rondebosch Cricket Club are currently in third, fourth and fifth position, respectively.

The University of the Western Cape Cricket Club, Cape Town Cricket Club and Bellville Cricket Club are in sixth, seventh and eight position, respectively.

Rylands Cricket Club and Brackenfell Cricket Club are in ninth and 10th position, respectively.

Kraaifontein Cricket Club and Ottoman Cricket Club currently occupy 11th and 12th position, respectively.
