Western Province Cricket Club spinner Michael Rippon has joined Otago for all but the remainder of New Zealand’s domestic season.
The left-arm wrist spinner was due to play against Canterbury at the University Oval Dunedin late last week, but the key Ford Trophy fixture was entirely rained out, which halted live cricket scores.
The 25-year-old’s debut for the Otago Volts will likely be Wednesday’s outing against Northern Districts at the Cobham Oval in Whangarei, followed by Saturday’s showdown with Central Districts at Fitzherbert Park in Palmerston North.
Rippon was key to Western Province Cricket Club’s 2015-16 title-winning campaign in the Western Province Cricket Association premier league – and enjoyed a solid stretch of form during their rise to second position in the ongoing 2016-17 WPCA premier league.
The talented all-rounder recently took three wickets and scored 82 runs for the Netherlands during the Desert T20 Challenge in Dubai.
