Batsman Ridaa Isaacs has moved from the University of the Western Cape Cricket Club to Western Province Cricket Club, ahead of the 2018-19 Western Province Cricket Association season.
Isaacs was key to the University of the Western Cape Cricket Club’s fourth-place finish in 2017-18’s 12-team premier league standings.
Western Province Cricket Club have also named the talented Shawn Dyson assistant coach. Head coach Rasheed Lewis has been retained. Chairman Duncan de Groot has succeeded the outgoing Neil Strybis.
They also have two players – all-rounder Dayyaan Galiem and fast bowler Michael Cohen – in Western Province’s squad for this year’s Africa T20 Cup. Both men have represented the Cape Cobras in franchise competition, too.
Meanwhile, the WPCA have confirmed premier league and first division A cricket will change from two- to one-day competition for the 2018-19 season.
A proposal, largely based on feedback solicited from premier league and first division clubs and the recommendations of a task team, suggested the format swap.
The decision will stand for the 2018-19 season and, later, be re-evaluated for a potential return to two-day cricket in 2019-20.
The changes are effectively a consequence of a 2017-18 season substantially shortened by water restrictions in Cape Town and surrounds.
