All-rounder Oliver Whitehead has been named in Western Province’s squad for this week’s T20 Challenge fixture against North West at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
Whitehead has been playing for Western Province Cricket Club in the Western Province Cricket Association premier league this month. Earlier this year, he represented South Africa at the Under-19 World Cup.
He has not yet been capped by Western Province at professional level.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Daniel Smith hit a half-century in Western Province’s previous fixture. They beat the Knights – and secured a berth in the T20 Challenge play-offs alongside the Lions, Titans and North West. The Warriors, Dolphins, Boland and Knights did not qualify for the next stage of the tournament.
“We have regrouped well and we are now looking forward to this game, nothing much we are going to do differently, we are just going to back our gameplans,” said Smith.
“We have gained so much confidence out of the last two games and hopefully we can come out on top on Wednesday.”
