Western Province will be without spinner Kyle Simmonds for this week’s 4-Day Domestic Series fixture against the Titans in Centurion.
Simmonds has been sidelined by an injury sustained earlier this month.
He was the joint-leading wicket-taker in the 2025 One-Day Cup, division one. He is also the joint-leading wicket-taker in this season’s 4-Day Domestic Series, division one, which will resume this week.
Western Province currently occupy sixth position on the 2024-25 4-Day Domestic Series points table after one win, one loss and two draws.
“I think the team is in a good space. The last couple of days of training have gone really well. We’re sitting in quite a nice position on the four-day log,” said Western Province captain Kyle Verreynne.
“Obviously still possible to make the final, so I think the guys are really focused on that.
“We have George Linde and Tony de Zorzi back now, which offers the team quite a bit of a boost. We are really looking forward to the game against the Titans and the games after that.”
The Lions are the reigning 4-Day Domestic Series, division one, champions – and are currently in first position. Batsman Dominic Hendricks and leg-spinner Junaid Dawood have returned to the Lions. Hendricks and Dawood were loaned to the Knights and Warriors, respectively, for the One-Day Cup earlier this month.
“We made the final last year and lost in the final to the Lions. So, it’ll be nice to go one step further and get to the final and then win it,” added Verreynne.
“So obviously if we can get over the line in a few of these games and qualify for another final, that’ll be really important for us.”
