Western Province lose Gavin Kaplan to Boland

Batsman Gavin Kaplan has been contracted by Boland for the 2024-25 domestic season in South Africa.

Boland chief executive officer James Fortuin confirmed Kaplan’s signing.

Kaplan was previously on a high performance contract at Western Province.

Kaplan had not played first-class cricket for two years prior to February 2024’s return. He struck 45, four, 173, 60 and zero during Western Province’s 4-Day Series, division one, campaign that month.

The 173 against the Dolphins at Newlands in Cape Town marked Kaplan’s maiden first-class century.

Boland, meanwhile, have not renewed the contracts of former Proteas cricketers Christiaan Jonker and Hardus Viljoen.

“We’re looking to refresh the squad considerably in the off-season. We’ve been called an old age home – that hurts,” Fortuin told Rapport.

Batsman Janneman Malan has also exited Boland, while seamer Keith Dudgeon has joined from the Tuskers. Batsmen Blayde Capell and Grant Roelofsen have also joined Boland from South Western Districts and the Dolphins, respectively.
