All-rounder Andile Simelane will play for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the 2025 edition of the SA20.
Simelane had not been capped by the Proteas during the 2024 SA20, but has since played five T20Is.
“What a quality all-rounder for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape. He hasn’t played a lot of cricket in the SA20, but hopefully season three will be a big breakthrough for him where he plays a lot of games and wins a lot of games for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape,” said former Proteas captain and SA20 ambassador AB de Villiers.
“Andile is very handy all-rounder, wins you matches with both bat and ball and I cannot wait to watch him perform.”
The Sunrisers Eastern Cape are the reigning SA20 champions. They are the most successful team in the brief history of the tournament with two titles. They are captained by Proteas batsman Aiden Markram.
Their 2025 squad includes England quintet Zak Crawley, Liam Dawson, Richard Gleeson, Craig Overton and Tom Abell.
The six-team SA20 also includes the Paarl Royals, MI Cape Town, Pretoria Capitals, Joburg Super Kings and Durban’s Super Giants.
The 2025 SA20 coincides with Bangladesh Premier League, Big Bash League in Australia and International League T20 in the United Arab Emirates.
“We see ourselves as very different to the ILT20. We’re a South African league, with a majority of South African players and our ultimate goal is to benefit South African players,” said SA20 league commissioner Graeme Smith.
