Dewald Brevis represented South Africa at the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in the Caribbean in 2022.
He is contracted by the Titans in South African domestic cricket and the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.

Brevis hit a record-breaking 506 runs at the tournament in 2022. His highest score was 138 against Bangladesh Under-19. He also scored a century against Uganda Under-19.
The hard-hitting right-hander collected 96 and 97 against Ireland Under-19 and England Under-19, respectively. The match against India Under-19 brought him 65. His only score under 50 at the competition was six against Sri Lanka Under-19.

CSA acting chief executive officer Pholetsi Moseki said: “Brevis has been very consistent, showing great talent in the preparations leading to the World Cup and it has been great to see his brilliance throughout this tournament.
“We’re glad to see the hard work that this youngster and the team has put leading to the tournament is paying off. Breaking records at such a young age is a massive achievement, and we are excited to see him showcasing his talent in both the domestic and international set up in the future.”

Brevis registered for the auction alongside 11 other South Africans uncapped at international level.
His base price was set at approximately R400,000.
He was bought by Mumbai for R6 million. The Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings also bid for him.

Dewald Brevis’ high school
Brevis was initially educated at Laerskool Hennopspark in Centurion. He then went to Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies) – the same high school that produced former Proteas captains AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis.
“AB is my childhood hero. I grew up close to SuperSport Park. I often watched him play from the grass embankment at SuperSport Park. And he is my mentor too,” Brevis was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
“My cricket and batting style developed naturally. I never had formal coaching for the first couple of years. I always watched AB playing on television. It is a massive honour to be compared with AB, but I still have a lot to learn.”
