The Sunrisers Hyderabad have signed South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder for this year’s edition of the Indian Premier League.
Mulder has replaced injured England all-rounder Brydon Carse in the Hyderabad squad.
Mulder, who has been signed by SRH for approximately R1.58 million, was with the Proteas in the Champions Trophy recently.
“Carse is ruled out due to an injury and his replacement Mulder, who is an all-rounder, will join SRH for INR 75 Lakh,” read a statement from the IPL.
“Mulder has played 11 T20Is in addition to 18 Tests and 25 ODIs. He has picked 60 up wickets in international cricket and has scored 970 international runs.”
This will be Mulder’s first time at the IPL. He has represented Leicestershire in the T20 Blast in England, San Francisco Unicorns in Major League Cricket in the United States of America and Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20.
Meanwhile, former Proteas head coach Mark Boucher‘s stint as Mumbai Indians coach in the Indian Premier League has ended.
Boucher has been replaced by former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene.
Jaywardene was Mumbai Indians head coach from 2017 to 2022, too.
“We are thrilled to have Mahela back as the head coach of Mumbai Indians. With our global teams having found their footing within their ecosystems, the opportunity to bring him back to MI arose,” said franchise owner Akash Ambani.
“His leadership, knowledge, and passion for the game have always benefited MI. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Boucher for his contribution over the last two seasons. His expertise and dedication were pivotal during his time, and has now become an integral member of the MI family.”
Mumbai are the joint most successful team in the history of the IPL. Mumbai and the Chennai Super Kings have won the title five times each. Mumbai ended the 2024 IPL in last position.
“My journey within the MI family has always been one of evolution. In 2017, the focus was on bringing together a talented group of individuals to play the best cricket ever and we did very well,” added Jayawardene.
“Now to return, at the same moment in history, where we look ahead at the future and the opportunity to further strengthen the love of MI, build on the vision of the owners, and continue to add to the history of Mumbai Indians, is an exciting challenge I am looking forward to.”
The 2025 IPL will start on 22 March. The Kolkata Knight Riders are the reigning champions.
