South Africa Over-50 and Western Province Cricket Club Veterans seamer Grant Jansen broke a world record this month.

Jansen completed the longest recorded run-up in cricket during 17 July 2025’s fixture between the WPCC Chairman’s XI and Lord’s Taverners XI at the Wally Wilson Oval in Cape Town, South Africa.

Jansen’s run-up measured 8.14 kilometres. The previous record was held by Australian Brendan Ingle, who completed a 7.8-kilometre run-up for Mandurah Cricket Club in 2023.

“In a remarkable display of endurance, discipline and purpose, Proteas Veterans cricketer Grant Jansen made history at the Mandela Day Charity Challenge 2025,” read a statement from WPCC.

“Jansen successfully broke the Guinness World Record for the longest run-up in cricket, completing the uninterrupted run-up before delivering a legal delivery.

“The recipient of this delivery was former Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman Steve Palframan, who was at the crease for 43 minutes before the delivery was bowled.”
