Durbanville Cricket Club seamer Jody Lawrence and Green Point Cricket Club batsman Zac Elkin were among the players who impressed Western Province convenor of selectors, at the time, Nazeem White, during the 2021-22 Western Province Cricket Association premier league.
Lawrence was key to Durbanville Cricket Club’s title-winning WPCA premier league campaign. He was named in the Western Province squad for a 4-Day Domestic Series fixture against the Knights, but did not debut in the playing XI.

Western Province capped Elkin several times at first-class and List A level during the 2020-21 domestic season, prior to top-tier South African domestic cricket’s return from franchise to provincial competition.
During the 2021-22 domestic season, Western Province Cricket Club’s Gavin Kaplan was largely preferred to Elkin, who remained integral to Green Point Cricket Club’s WPCA premier league campaign.

“I think Jody will be in the mix again this coming season. He put in the work and got recognised,” White told Club Cricket SA.
“We had a look at Zac again last season. Zac was going to be picked ahead of Gavin at one stage, but in the end we stuck with Kaplan.”
Durbanville Cricket Club batsman Ruben Senekal, according to White, is a contender for inclusion in the Western Province Colts squad later this year.
“I think Ruben of Durbanville Cricket Club should be in the Western Province Colts this coming season,” added White, who was appointed on a one-year term.
Whether Western Province extend White’s tenure – or advertise or retain the role – remains in the balance.
“My term is up and I need to think about reapplying or not, if Western Province put the processes out for the position again. If I’m not the convenor of selectors, then I hope whoever is puts a big focus on club cricket,” he said.
