Former Proteas batsman JP Duminy has joined Western Province’s coaching staff for this season’s T20 Challenge.
Duminy will work alongside head coach Rory Kleinveldt, assistant coach Qaasim Adams and fielding coach Ryan Maron, whose appointment was confirmed earlier this week.
“Our preparations for the T20 Challenge have been going really well and bringing in two highly experienced coaches like JP and Ryan adds great value to what we’re building,” said Kleinveldt.
“JP’s knowledge of the shorter format and his experience at the highest level will be massive for our batting group, while Ryan’s expertise in fielding and attention to detail will definitely sharpen us up in that department.
“It’s exciting to have them on board and I believe their input will make a big difference as we head into the competition.”
Meanwhile, Western Province have clarified batsman David Bedingham’s absence from the 19-man squad for this season’s T20 Challenge.
Bedingham was omitted from South Africa’s Test squad earlier this week, but not necessarily due to injury, according to head coach Shukri Conrad.
Western Province, however, have since stated: “David has been ruled out of the T20 Challenge with a right quadriceps muscle injury.
“He is currently progressing through his structured rehabilitation program under the supervision of the Cricket South Africa high performance team.”
Western Province’s T20 campaign will start against North West at Newlands in Cape Town on Sunday.
