The Lions beat Western Province by 106 runs on day four of this week’s 4-Day Domestic Series, division one, fixture at Newlands in Cape Town.
The Lions posted 402 all out in the first innings. All-rounder Mitchell van Buuren hit 170. Seamers Nandre Burger and Beuran Hendricks took three wickets each.
Western Province responded with 271 all out. All-rounder Kyle Simmonds struck 120. Seamer Duane Olivier took five wickets.
The Lions’ second innings moved to 249 for five declared. Wicketkeeper-batsman Ryan Rickelton hit 112. Burger took three more wickets.
Set a 381-run target in the fourth innings, Western Province were bowled out for 274. Captain Kyle Verreynne hit 68. Batsman David Bedingham hit 60. Spinner Bjorn Fortuin took five wickets.
Western Province are the reigning One-Day Cup champions.
