The Western Province Veterans Cricket Association hosted Western Province Over-40 trial fixtures at Durbanville Cricket Club on Sunday, 13 April 2025.
The WPVCA’s new selection panel attended – and will consider trial and league peformances for the final squad selection.
Western Province Over-40, who are the reigning champions, will participate in May 2025’s inter-provincial tournament in Port Elizabeth.

Who scored the most runs?
Pinelands Cricket Club Veterans’ Garth Newman’s 52 from 52 deliveries was the only half-century across both trial fixtures. Four other players, including 2023 WP Over-40 all-rounder Jaco Castle, hit scores of 40-plus.
Who had the highest strike rate?
Ottoman Cricket Club Veterans’ Sohail Imran gathered the highest strike rate among the top 20 run-scorers. He hit 27 off 10 deliveries for a strike rate of 270. His three sixes were the most. Wynberg Cricket Club Veterans’ Ziyaad Daniels’ strike rate was 177.
Who took the most wickets?
Cape Town Cricket Club Veterans’ Dale Hair took four wickets. He completed figures of four for 29 in seven overs. Northerns Goodwood Cricket Club Veterans’ Vivian Engelbrecht and Cape Town Cricket Club Veterans’ Shane Dixon were the only other bowlers to take three wickets or more each.
Who had the best economy rate?
Yorkshire Cricket Club Veterans’ Shaheen Pandie’s economy rate of 1.25, collected across figures of two for 41 in seven overs, was the best among the top 20 wicket-takers.
Who was the best all-rounder?
Montrose Cricket Club Veterans’ Adi Jackson was among the top five wicket-takers and top five run-scorers. Jackson was in 2023’s Western Provine Over-40 squad.
Who was the best wicketkeeper-batsman?
Brackenfell Cricket Club Veterans’ Werner Moolman, who was also in 2023’s WP Over-40 squad, took three catches finished among Sunday’s top 10 run-scorers. Cape Town Cricket Club Veterans’ Michael Marillier was also among Sunday’s top 10 run-scorers.
