Western Province Veterans Cricket Association treasurer Feroz Shaik resigned on Wednesday.

Shaik’s resignation, in an email addressed to WPVCA secretary Carol van Vuuren, was with immediate effect.

His exit came a day after WPVCA chairman Nazeem White’s resignation on Tuesday.

Three other WPVCA executive committee members –David Botha, Faeez Davids and Foazia Sylvester – have resigned as well.

Meanwhile, the Western Province Cricket Association have appointed new chief executive officer Corrie van Zyl.

Van Zyl has succeeded former WPCA CEO Michael Canterbury, whose tenure ended earlier this year.

Van Zyl, who has previously worked with Cricket South Africa, has been appointed on a five-year contract with the WPCA.

“This was a robust recruitment process. Corrie is a distinguished figure in South African cricket, renowned for his extensive contributions as a player, coach, and administrator,” read a statement from the WPCA.

“He has dedicated his life to the sport, earning respect and admiration within the cricketing fraternity both locally and internationally.

“Corrie was a talented fast bowler who played for Free State in the South African domestic circuit during the 1980s and 1990s. He was known for his pace and ability to swing the ball effectively and was rewarded with a number of national team call-ups.

“Upon conclusion of his playing career, Corrie successfully undertook various coaching roles, which were marked by an emphasis on discipline, strategy, and player development. This positively impacted many, many upcoming cricketers.

“On the administration front, Corrie has been employed in various pivotal roles within CSA. His expertise in cricket operations, strategic planning, and talent management has been instrumental in shaping the future of South African cricket.”
