Former Western Province Cricket Association treasurer Omar Sonday passed away this week.
Sonday was a longstanding member of Cravenby Cricket Club.
“The WPCA board, management and staff are saddened to hear of the passing today of Omar Sonday. He was a longstanding executive member, director and treasurer on the WPCA board,” read a statement from the WPCA.
“More recently, he served as a director on WPCA Property Holdings. He is fondly remembered for his commitment to cricket and was a great servant to the game and to Western Province cricket.”
WPCA president Ashraf Burns added: “Omar will be remembered for his dedication in serving Cravenby Cricket Club and the WPCA on various committees over the years.
“He made useful contributions as a WPCA board member and subsequently as a WPCA Propco director, where his services will be sorely missed. You played a great innings, Omar.”
Former WPCA president Arnold Bloch concluded: “I grew to know Omar very well. He was a committed club man and in later years progressed to serve our WPCA. It is with sadness I extend sincere condolences to his family during this painful period.”
