The Western Province Cricket Association have appointed new club cricket coordinator Thabo Spelman.
Spelman has succeeded former WPCA club cricket coordinator Lindsay O’Malley, who resigned earlier this year.
“We followed a thorough process to fill the club cricket coordinator vacancy – it is our pleasure to welcome Thabo as the new club cricket coordinator,” said WPCA cricket services manager Clinton du Preez.
“Lindsay has been a true servant to the game in cricket administration and will sorely miss his initiatives and dedication to always administrate in the best interest of our beautiful game.
“We thank Lindsay for the contribution he has made in the advancement of cricket at Western Province Cricket Association and would like to wish him well in his future endeavours.”
In May 2024, the WPCA appointed new chief executive officer Corrie van Zyl. Van Zyl has replaced former WPCA CEO Michael Canterbury.
Van Zyl, who has previously worked with Cricket South Africa, has been appointed on a five-year contract with the WPCA.
“This was a robust recruitment process. Corrie is a distinguished figure in South African cricket, renowned for his extensive contributions as a player, coach, and administrator,” read a statement from the WPCA.
“He has dedicated his life to the sport, earning respect and admiration within the cricketing fraternity both locally and internationally.
“Corrie was a talented fast bowler who played for Free State in the South African domestic circuit during the 1980s and 1990s. He was known for his pace and ability to swing the ball effectively and was rewarded with a number of national team call-ups.
“Upon conclusion of his playing career, Corrie successfully undertook various coaching roles, which were marked by an emphasis on discipline, strategy, and player development. This positively impacted many, many upcoming cricketers.
“On the administration front, Corrie has been employed in various pivotal roles within CSA. His expertise in cricket operations, strategic planning, and talent management has been instrumental in shaping the future of South African cricket.”
