Wynberg Cricket Club have named batsman Munier Khopatkar captain for the 2024-25 Western Province Cricket Association first division C.
Khopatkar has succeeded former Wynberg Cricket Club captain Yusriy Sulaiman.
Meanwhile, all-rounder Mohammed Rahman has returned to Wynberg Cricket Club. Rahman has rejoined in a player-coach role after one season with Rylands Cricket Club in the 2023-24 WPCA premier league.
“We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Mohammed as our player-coach for the upcoming season. He was an invaluable asset for the club in the past,” read a statement from Wynberg Cricket Club.
“He will head the coaching department and contribute as a player. We wish him well in this new venture. We believe he has the abilities and capabilities needed to take our club forward.”
Rahman has succeeded former head coach Kyle Prince, who has exited after Wynberg Cricket Club were relegated to the 2024-25 WPCA first division C after ending the 2023-24 first division B in second-last position. They won four and lost 14 matches.
Wynberg Cricket Club, too, have appointed new assistant coach Kevin Duminy.
“Kevin has been with the club for over 20 years. We are excited to be able to make this appointment as Kevin embodies everything Wynberg and we wish him nothing but the best in his new role,” added Wynberg Cricket Club.
