Wynberg Cricket Club batsman reaches 1,000-run season milestone

Wynberg Cricket Club batsman Donavon Koen reached 1,000 runs for the 2022-23 Western Province Cricket Association season recently.

Koen has been playing for Wynberg Cricket Club in the WPCA third division C and, last week, hit 155 against Victoria Cricket Club.

He currently has 1,039 runs across 12 innings in the 2022-23 WPCA third division C. This tally includes six centuries.

“We entered a sixth XI into the WPCA for the 2022-23 season. This is the first time we have done this,” said Wynberg Cricket Club life member Craig Young.

“The sixth XI is generally made up of four or five senior players, with the rest being under-14 players. Donavon committed himself to this team from the beginning as he wanted to assist with the nurturing of these youngsters.”

Koen added: “I’m not one to harp on individual achievements, but this is one that I am very proud of. What a great club Wynberg Cricket Club is to reach this milestone with. Truly blessed to still be able to play this game.”
