Wynberg Cricket Club spinner Craig Smith completed figures of 10 for eight in 6.2 overs in last week’s Western Province Cricket Association third division C fixture against Macassar Cricket Club.
Smith’s figures are the best in the history of Wynberg Cricket Club. Smith’s haul bettered the nine for 38 seamer Craig Young took against Bonteheuwel Cricket Club during the 2001-02 season are the previous best.
“Another special moment as Craig Smith produced unbelievable figures of 6.2 overs, eight runs, 10 wickets, to bowl out visitors Macassar Cricket Club,” read a statement from Wynberg Cricket Club.
“This momentous achievement sets the record for the best figures ever at Wynberg Cricket Club. The third XI managed to bowl the visitors out for 55 and chase it down in quick time. What an incredible achievement and one that will certainly be extremely tough to match.”
Also last week, in the WPCA third division A, Wynberg Cricket Club were bowled out for 13 against Edgemead Cricket Club. Left-arm seamer
Left-arm seamer Simon Blake completed figures of six for six. Right-arm seamer Ricardo McGregor took three wickets. Edgemead Cricket Club won the match by eight wickets.
Wynberg Cricket Club have two teams in the WPCA third division A. While the second team was bowled out for 13, the first team won the 2024-25 WPCA third division A title.
