Former Proteas batsman Loots Bosman has been named in Yorkshire Cricket Club’s squad for this month’s National Club Championship in Pretoria.

Bosman was key to Yorkshire Cricket Club’s triumphant 2017-18 Northern Cape Cricket Union premier league campaign. They, too, beat the University of the Free State Cricket Club in the regional play-off to qualify for the tournament proper.

The hard-hitting right-hander played 14 ODIs and as many T20Is between September 2006 and October 2010.

His highest T20I score of 94 came on debut against England at SuperSport Park in Centurion, during a record-breaking 170-run partnerhship alongside Graeme Smith.

“Loots adds a lot of value in the team and he has been good to the club for years now. We look to him as our role model and playing with him is a great experience. What he has added to the club over the years has been great,” captain Kagisho Mohale told Club Cricket SA.

Yorkshire Cricket Club’s National Club Championship campaign will start against the North-West University Cricket Club (Pukke) at Tshwane University of Technology Oval on 22 April. Challenging fixtures against University of Pretoria Cricket Club (Tuks), Crusaders Cricket Club, University of Fort Hare Cricket Club and Wellington Cricket Club will follow on 23, 24, 25 and 26 April, respectively.

“We are excited to go to the Club Championship. We haven’t been to the tournament for quite a while and, for a few of the players, this will be their first time. Hopefully, we can give our best and do well,” added Mohale.
