South Africa beat Zimbabwe by 328 runs on day four of the first Test in Bulawayo this week.

Debutant Lhuan-dre Pretorius – and all-rounders Corbin Bosch and Wiaan Mulder – hit centuries for the Proteas. Bosch took five wickets in the fourth innings.

South Africa also debuted seamer Codi Yusuf and batsman Dewald Brevis in this match. Yusuf took six wickets across both innings. Brevis hit a half-century.

Pretorius was named player of the match after becoming the seventh Proteas cricketer to hit a century on Test debut.

“It’s a moment I’ll cherish and remember for a very long time. It was amazing. I haven’t played a lot of first-class games, but I’ve been in that position once or twice,” said Pretorius.

“I tried to stick to my game plan. The message was quite clear in the change room, that I needed to be myself. Soaking in the pressure, and transferring it again was important.”

The second and final Test will start at the same venue on Sunday, 6 July 2025.

South Africa have rested several first-choice players for this series, including batsmen Aiden Markram and Tristan Stubbs, seamer Kagiso Rabada and all-rounder Marco Jansen.

Spinner Keshav Maharaj is captain in the absence of the injured Temba Bavuma. Bavuma sustained a hamstring injury during last month’s World Test Championship final victory over Australia at Lord’s in London, England.
